Jumilla, once called “La Bella” (The Lovely City) by the arabs, is a delighting city to visit and for living. Its ancient streets, full of old emblazoned centenarian houses, have been involved by the passage of time. Its Castilian, Aragonese and Levantine orygins reflect in its people, streets and colorful houses of the XIX century. It has a very intense light, and its sky is so blue that cannot escape to the visitor’s attention. Its green gardens seem like oasis in the middle of the city. It is a kind and quiet place, just turned into a bustling one on Easter or on August Feasts.
Jumilla is a delighting city situated in the North-East of the Region of Murcia, very closed to its neighbouring towns of La Mancha, also included in the D.O. Jumilla.
Some of the places you can visit in Jumilla are: the Castle (XVth century), which influenced by a mixture of cultures throughout the years, dominates the city over the mountain; the Major Church of Santiago (XVth century), with an impressive altarpiece, was declared as a national monument on 1931; the Old Council (XVIth century), which was built on a Renaissance style, where the archaeology section of the Municipal Museum Jerónimo Molina can be found; the “Casón” (Vth century a.C.), a funereary monument from the late roman period, unique in Spain and in Europe; the Vico Theatre (XIXth century), in the same style than the Romea Theatre in Murcia.
